End of Semester checkout

When the semester is finishing up, it is time to fully embrace the approach of winter. Just because finals are around the corner does not give you an excuse to slack in the fashion department!

What is warmer than fur? Not much. But that is why fur, faux of course, is the perfect accessory for the cold weather. Fur vests have come back into style this season so take full advantage of this hot (literally) look while you can.

This week's inspiration is Pippa Middleton.

Her all grey ensemble is anything but boring. With different textures and shades, she incorporates casual with chic. And the pop of the brown moccasin shoe really ties everything together. Pippa is also carrying a sleek laptop case, so she means business; and so should you!

To break up the outfit even more, Pippa is wearing grey and white fingerless gloves. Bringing in white with other accessories will also get you noticed. White is clean and polished, yet simple, and stands out against any other color, even grey. It also reminds me of snow.. and it is winter after all. Watches, stud earrings and a small seasonal necklace are the perfect barely there accents to this outfit. Here are some examples that exude simplicity with this busy attire:

Winter is often associated with dark colors. I'm not sure if it's from trying to hide all the holiday weight gain or because of the long hours of darkness and gloom. Either way a gorgeous dark blue nail is totally appropriate for this time of year. The motivation for this week is to get through finals and end the semester on a strong note. Dark nail polish is sophisticated and edgy. As an added plus the darkness won't be a distraction so you can really get some serious work done. Yoga-ta Get This Blue by O.P.I is a perfect choice, seen below:

The last component of any put together look is hair and makeup. Considering the hectic attitude of finals preparation, sticking to your everyday routine might be a smart choice. Don't think of it as boring, think of it as keeping yourself balanced. Staying in a routine can reduce stress and improve focus.. which is EXACTLY what you will need at this point. Pippa Middleton not only offers outfit inspiration, but shows how a sticking to a simple, everyday look can still be stunning. Air-dried hair with a little anti-frizz serum and a bit of bronzer, dark eyeliner and mascara are a fantastic combination without being overdone. Shown here Pippa flaunts her natural waves and beautiful complexion:

Pippa Middleton, sister of Kate Middleton (Duchess of Cambridge), is a hardworking young woman. She is constantly in the spotlight for being a royal socialite but she certainly means business. At only 29 years young she has already accomplished so much, from public relations, management, and writing her own book to being named one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Wow. She really is a perfect candidate for this week's inspiration.

If you're like me you need a serious wake up call at the end of the semester. As things wind down just remember how simple it is to look good and mean business. And as always, if you look good, you feel good.

Back-to-School frenzy

As Labor Day Weekend comes to a close and Back-to-School is now in full effect, try to find one more excuse to wear white. Despite pumpkin coffee coming into season again, it is technically still summer.. isn't it?

White jeans are the perfect staple item to any summer wardrobe. They match with everything! If you're looking for that go-to item, this should be it. They exude class, style and sophistication while maintaining a casual feel. For these very reasons, white jeans are my top choice for Back-to-School week.

This week's inspiration came from Lauren Conrad.

While wearing all white might be a little monotonous, Lauren used her bag and sandals as accessories to bring in some color. Again, white jeans go with anything! This outfit is so easy, allowing you to effortlessly look cute and maybe get an extra 10 minutes of beauty sleep in the morning. Because of the simplicity of this outfit there are many options to change it up. You can try a tank top, a colored shirt, bangles, a long necklace, earrings, a headband, flats and the list goes on.. but make it you! Here are a few quick ideas:

So... mint is the new black. In the last year, it has taken the fashion world by storm, showing up in all forms, shapes and sizes. My latest obsession is mint colored nail polish. I don't know about you but it reminds me of a mint chocolate chip ice cream treat, yum.

Since it has recently become the new craze, many lines have come out with their version of the mint nail polish. It is trendy, sophisticated, summery and fun.. the perfect combination to ease yourself into Back-to-School week. And girls, I know it may be tempting but forget all of those "paint one nail a different color" things. This week is about simplicity because you will have a lot of other things to focus on with school. Here is a great example:

Staying on the idea of easing ourselves into Back-to-School week by including touches of summer and keeping things simple, it is only right that your makeup be at a bare minimum. By this I mean you probably don't need bronzer, dark eye makeup, or bright lipstick.

Nobody does natural makeup better than Lauren Conrad, who also happens to be our outfit inspiration! The natural look refers to accentuating your best features very subtly. A little blush on your cheeks, a dab of white eyeshadow on the inner corners of your eyes, a few swipes of mascara and a drop of clear lipgloss is the best way to do so. Gold powder could also be used over your blush to give that glowing effect.

Does this sound familiar? It may already be your summer makeup routine! Be natural and look absolutely radiant like Lauren:

Lauren Conrad was also the inspiration this week because she is driven. Back-to-School week may not be the most exciting time of the year, so to get on track watch an episode of The Hills and use Ms. Conrad as your motivation. By striving for what she wanted she met with success, and has a lot to show for it! Doesn't that sound nice?

If you're struggling to get your butt out of bed and be on time to class, just think of how easy this is and how good you'll look. And remember.. when you look good, you feel good.

Humble Beginnings

Starting a fashion blog is probably not the most original idea I've had but I hope it will become something to be proud of. The name "Flavor of the Week" seemed fitting because I will bring you new head-to-toe inspiration on designated weeks. Inspiration can come from seasons, holidays or weekly events.

It is my goal to bring you not only inspiration on how to look good, but also how to feel good. As this blog progresses, I hope to build on the inspiration I provided to my audience the post before. There are many ideas in my head which I hope to eventually share with all of you. Stay tuned and thank you in advance for reading. Enjoy! Xo
